Normally I don’t pay attention to rumours in Hollywood. Things going on behind the scenes always seem so flimsy and changeable and hardly worth investing much time thinking about. Still, there are a few rumours that, regardless of their validity, have been awfully persistent in their sticking appeal. Here are a few…
Lars Von Trier will remake Taxi Driver
Some movies are simply timeless classics. Taxi Driver (aka. “You talkin’ to me? Are you talkin’ to me?”) launched Robert De Niro into the public consciousness and has become one such classic. It’s hard to imagine anything better could be done with it, but according to Danish magazine, “Ekko”, Martin Scorcese and Lars Von Trier are going to be doing a remake of this cult-classic. Who would play De Niro’s role? Wait for it. De Niro. Kaboom goes your mind.
I don’t know which is more unlikely: a remake of such a classic or the fact that it would be redone with the exact same guy in the lead role. I’ll be sure to keep tabs on this one.
[UPDATE] Turns out this one is, not surprisingly, completely untrue. Von Trier’s business partner claims any plans to remake Taxi Driver are “rubbish”. Now we can all breathe a sigh of relief.
Megan Fox will play Catwoman in Batman 3
Sweet Jesus. Say it ain’t so. This rumour, largely propagated by the UK’s “Sun” Newspaper, borders on obscene due to Fox’s lack of acting ability or pretty much being anything beyond spank-fodder. Of course, for every source claiming that this rumour is legit, there’s at least another denying its validity. For a movie that doesn’t even have a script written yet, I think it’s safe to say that any casting choices are completely up in the air.
Christopher Pine to play Captain America
Another superhero rumour. Christopher Pine, who you may remember as Captain Kirk in the new Star Trek reboot, is rumoured to be one of the top considerations for the lead role in the new Captain America adaptation. Seems he likes the whole Captain thing quite a bit. Personally, I’m holding out for him to play Captain Crunch. Maybe the movie could be about a quest for a cereal that doesn’t cut the roof of your mouth.
